There are seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). They are made up of three prime areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, and Physical Development. The four specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. There is lots of useful information available relating to statutory guidelines and framework that Early Years Providers follow. To access this information search online for ‘Parents Guide to Early Years Framework’ online, and download the document. http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2014/08/EYFS_Parents_Guide-amended.pdf
Children are actively encouraged to explore every area within the preschool, and learn according to their own interests and abilities. This is in accordance with EYFS guidelines, and our ability to incorporate the seven areas of learning into any activity made available to the children on a daily basis. This forms the basis for planning activities that meet each child’s interests and developmental requirements, and factor in any special educational requirements.
